The "2019 Department of Art Faculty Exhibition" is a formal presentation of recent accomplishments by the faculty in the UNI Department of Art and includes painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media, performance and installation art as well as art history scholarship. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the Kamerick Art Building’s south lobby. All events are free and open to the public.

Visiting artist Michael Compitello will present a percussion recital. Compitello is a percussionist, music-lover, chamber musician, collaborator, teacher, curator, and writer. His mission is to advocate for the efficacy of contemporary music in contemporary society and to build community around the arts. This event is free and open to the public.

Meet the Greeks showcases current culturally-based Greek organizations, such as Lambda; Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.; Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc.; and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Students and the campus community can learn about benefits of membership, hear from current students about their experiences and discover what to do if interested in joining an organization.

The intuitive eating workshop is a 4-week series that serves as a safe space for students to discuss their experiences among a small group of others who are interested in creating a new relationship with their mind, body and food. Discussion topics are centered around the 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating.

October 11 is National Coming Out Day, a day to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and show pride. UNI Proud and Gender and Sexuality Services will be taking photos of pride and support. Various pride flags and message boards will be available to take photos with. Photos taken on the camera provided will be posted on social media, but photos can be taken on personal phones, too.

The 2019 Economic Inclusion Conference: Creating Brave Spaces is presented in partnership with Grow Cedar Valley.  Keynote Joe Gerstandt combines artful storytelling with the latest research and science to successfully illustrate the importance of diversity and inclusion. The summit will include sessions facilitated by local diversity practitioners representing education, the private business sector and community leaders. The sessions are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
