The Clothesline Project is an interactive event that raises awareness for violence against women, the LGBTQ* community and other marginalized populations. Members of the campus community who have been affected by violence, be it first-hand or otherwise, are invited to decorate a t-shirt with theri thoughts, feelings and supportive messages surrounding the topic of relationship violence or sexual assault.

Celebrate Open Access Week by joining faculty from a variety of departments to hear strategies they have used to implement Open Educational Resources (OERs) in their classrooms to save students money on course materials. They will share their motivations for adopting OERs as well as the advantages, benefits and challenges they encountered along the way. The session will also address the theme for Open Access Week 2019: “Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge.”

The UNI Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS), in collaboration with students from the Departments of Biology, Physics, and Earth and Environmental Science, will be hosting a “Halloween House.” UNI students will perform Halloween-themed science demonstrations and supervise hands-on activities in rooms such as the “Devil’s Den," “Tesla’s Revenge," “Fossil Gorge" and “Creepy Crawlers." This event is free and open to the public. Costumes are welcome. The activities are intended for elementary-age children, but can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

Carrie Eilderts, executive director of the Cedar Falls Historical Society, will share stories of three venues in downtown Cedar Falls, including the Ice House Museum, Victorian Home and Carriage House, and Little Red Schoolhouse. The series is free and open to the public. Free parking and handicapped accessibility are available.

Experience a relaxing meditation by walking the labyrinth, a large canvas with patterns leading to the center and back out again.

This speed networking event hosted by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is an opportunity to identify new research collaborators, share ideas and expertise and meet new colleagues with similar scholarly interests in a fun, informal environment. Registration is required.

The College of Education will host its bi-annual Teacher Education Induction Convocation. Three-hundred and thirty students have satisfied requirements for admission into program and are invited to participate in the formal ceremony, the official induction of students into that field of study.  Benjamin Forsyth, educational psychology, foundations and leadership studies, will deliver the convocation address. Parents and friends of the candidates are invited, as well as faculty and administrators. A reception will follow.

We will be improving the representation of LGBT+ folks and topics on Wikipedia while enjoying a selfie wall, queer wiki buttons and games. All are welcome and costumes are encouraged. No prior Wikipedia experience required.

Saturday, November 2, 2019 - 1:00 pm

UNI is hosting a powerlifting competition. The cost is$25 for students, faculty and staff; and $35 for the public. The competition will involve three attempts to establish a maximum lift in the squat, bench press and deadlift exercises. Weight classes will be decided based on participation.

Panther Initiative for Environmental Equity and Resilience (PIEER) will join a Waste Trac education team member for a tour of the landfill. Participants will learn about where five counties take their garbage for burial, the four biggest categories of waste, and ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.
