The Panther Marching Band, the largest student organization on the UNI campus, combines Panther spirit, pride, musicianship, and more than 100 years of tradition. UNI faculty artists Steve Koh, violin, Julia Bullard, viola, and Vakhtang Kodanashvili, piano will collaborate with guest cellist Hannah Holman to perform the music of Mozart, Rebecca Clarke, and Gustav Mahler. This event is free and open to the public.

Visiting artist Noa Kageyama will present a school-wide presentation for music students and faculty. Kageyama currently serves as music psychology professor at The Juilliard School, and on staff with the New World Symphony in Miami, FL, and is creator and manager of the web site and blog The Bulletproof Musician. This event is free and open to the public.

This workshop, featuring guest Judy Bowers, the Emy-Lou Bidenharn Endowed Chair in Music Education at the University of Louisiana Monroe, is designed exclusively for choral music educators of all levels. The University of Northern Iowa is committed to provide a continuing education opportunity for all music educators by connecting them with renowned choral musicians. Visiting artist Emily Loboda-Hitchcock will present a saxophone recital. Emily is an accomplished solo saxophonist, chamber musician, and educator. Her desire to create inspired and meaningful music can be seen not only in her solo performances, but also in chamber performances with her percussion/saxophone duo, Interrobang and saxophone quartet, Minerva. This event is free and open to the public.

Get ready for a celebration and join us for “Coming Attractions!” the 38th annual Scholarship Benefit Concert! The evening will be filled with exceptional performances by student and faculty musicians including the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, UNI Choirs, faculty artist Suzanne Hendrix-Case, mezzo-soprano, the UNI Women’s Chorus, faculty artist Randall Harlow, organ, “Saloon Music” by Bruce Broughton featuring Randy Grabowski, trumpet, with faculty and student musicians, and UNI Jazz Band One. Pre-concert music will be provided by the UNI Children’s Choir during our chocolate course served at 6:45 p.m., and the mainstage concert will be followed excellent hors d’oeuvres and champagne in the lobby with music provided by Bob Dunn, guitar, or step into Davis Hall for a showcase celebrating Walt Whitman on the 200th anniversary of his birthday. Coordinated by faculty artists Jonathan Schwabe and Christopher Merz, the showcase will feature School of Music students and faculty. Visiting artist Ashely Hall will present a trumpet recital. Ashley Hall is an internationally renowned trumpet soloist, chamber musician, clinician, and coach.  From small rural villages in the developing world to grand concert halls, both personally and professionally Ashley has engaged in her passion for building community and inviting people into the experience of music as a tool for connection. As the principal trumpet of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Ashley enjoys regular cross-discipline artistic collaborations in non-traditional and traditional performance spaces in connection with their highly successful Summermusik Festival. This event is free and open to the public.

Members of the UNI Cantorei, Wind Symphony and Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra will collaborate under the direction of conductor John Len Wiles to present this performance as part of the Northern Iowa Bach Cantata Series. This event is free and open to the public.
