Are you interested in being a part of Some Assembly Required? No previous improv experience is required to try out. Auditions will last an hour to an hour and a half depending on turnout, and include improv warm-ups, games and scene work.

Visiting artist Emily Loboda-Hitchcock will present a saxophone recital. Emily is an accomplished solo saxophonist, chamber musician, and educator. Her desire to create inspired and meaningful music can be seen not only in her solo performances, but also in chamber performances with her percussion/saxophone duo, Interrobang and saxophone quartet, Minerva. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, September 27, 2019 - 7:30 pm

Get ready for a celebration and join us for “Coming Attractions!” the 38th annual Scholarship Benefit Concert! The evening will be filled with exceptional performances by student and faculty musicians including the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, UNI Choirs, faculty artist Suzanne Hendrix-Case, mezzo-soprano, the UNI Women’s Chorus, faculty artist Randall Harlow, organ, “Saloon Music” by Bruce Broughton featuring Randy Grabowski, trumpet, with faculty and student musicians, and UNI Jazz Band One. Pre-concert music will be provided by the UNI Children’s Choir during our chocolate course served at 6:45 p.m., and the mainstage concert will be followed excellent hors d’oeuvres and champagne in the lobby with music provided by Bob Dunn, guitar, or step into Davis Hall for a showcase celebrating Walt Whitman on the 200th anniversary of his birthday. Coordinated by faculty artists Jonathan Schwabe and Christopher Merz, the showcase will feature School of Music students and faculty. UNI jazz combos, coordinated by Chris Merz and graduate assistant directors, will offer a concert featuring jazz standards and new arrangements. This event is free and open to the public.

Faculty artist Alexander Pershounin will coordinate a studio recital featuring UNI students performing on double bass. This event is free and open to the public.

UNI School of Music faculty artists Michelle Monroe, mezzo-soprano, and Robin Guy, piano, will collaborate to present a fall recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Thursday, October 3, 2019 - 7:30 pm

Visiting artist Ashely Hall will present a trumpet recital. Ashley Hall is an internationally renowned trumpet soloist, chamber musician, clinician, and coach.  From small rural villages in the developing world to grand concert halls, both personally and professionally Ashley has engaged in her passion for building community and inviting people into the experience of music as a tool for connection. As the principal trumpet of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Ashley enjoys regular cross-discipline artistic collaborations in non-traditional and traditional performance spaces in connection with their highly successful Summermusik Festival. This event is free and open to the public.

Members of the UNI Cantorei, Wind Symphony and Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra will collaborate under the direction of conductor John Len Wiles to present this performance as part of the Northern Iowa Bach Cantata Series. This event is free and open to the public.

Crumrine has earned a B.M. in Music Performance from University of North Texas, a M.M. in Music Performance from Baylor University and is currently completing his D.M.A. at The Ohio State University. Visiting artist Michael Compitello will present a percussion recital. Compitello is a percussionist, music-lover, chamber musician, collaborator, teacher, curator, and writer. Join us for an encore presentation of works celebrating the 200th anniversary of Walt Whitman's birth.
