Visiting artist Jeff Scott will present a horn recital. A native of Queens, NY, Scott has performed in numerous Broadway orchestras, has been a member of the Alvin Ailey and Dance Theater of Harlem orchestras since 1995 and has performed numerous times under the direction of Wynton Marsalis with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Jeff is also the hornist in the internationally acclaimed wind quintet Imani Winds. This event is free and open to the public.

The Beta Nu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the UNI School of Music invite you and your band to the 63rd Annual Tallcorn Jazz Festival and 67th Sinfonian Dimensions in Jazz Concerts to be held on February 16 and 17, 2018, on the UNI campus. Monday, February 19, 2018 - 7:30 pm

The 2d Marine Division Band - "The Division's Own" - was formed from elements of the 2d, 6th, and 8th Marine Regiment Bands. Gathering for rest and relaxation, they came together for the first time in Wellington, New Zealand during World War II. The 2d Marine Division Band is the only musical unit aboard Camp Lejeune and provides musical support for the five major commands and 47,000 Marines for whom Camp Lejeune is home. "The Division’s Own" also performs in numerous parades, concerts and ceremonies throughout the eastern United States. This event is free and open to the public.

Visiting artists Jonathan Hulting-Cohen, saxophone and Nicholas Shaneyfelt, piano will present a recital. The duo is currently touring works by Ingrid Arauco, Annika Socolofsky, Stephen J. Rush, Salvatore Macchia, and Felipe Salles. This event is free and open to the public.

The UNI School of Music Suzuki School will present a recital featuring Suzuki faculty artists. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, February 20, 2018 - 7:30 pm

Under the direction of faculty artist Chris Merz and graduate student conductors, the School of Music will present a jazz combos concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, February 21, 2018 - 7:30 pm

The Northern Iowa Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will share a late-winter concert, under the direction of Danny Galyen and Justin Mertz. This event is free and open to the public.

Faculty artist Sean Botkin will present a piano recital with repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, February 22, 2018 - 6:00 pm

Students from the viola studio of Julia Bullard will present a recital. This event is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of UNI percussion faculty Ryan Frost and Matthew Andreini, the UNI Percussion and West African Drum Ensembles will offer the first of their spring concerts along with UNI’s Taiko drum ensemble Kaji-Daiko and the UNI Marimba Ensemble. This event is free and open to the public.

Friday, February 23, 2018 - 8:00 pm

Visiting artist Eric Stomberg will present a bassoon recital. Stomberg enjoys a wide-ranging musical career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and artist-teacher, and currently serves as professor of bassoon and associate dean for performance activities at the University of Kansas. This event is free and open to the public. 

Monday, February 26, 2018 - 8:00 pm

Faculty artist Mitra Sadeghpour, soprano, will present a recital with collaborators and repertoire to be announced. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, February 27, 2018 - 8:00 pm

Under the direction of UNI professor of flute Angeleita Floyd, the Northern Iowa Flute Choir and Flute Studio will present its annual concert. This event is free and open to the public.

Wednesday, February 28, 2018 - 8:00 pm

Visiting artist George Vatchnadze will present a piano recital. George has appeared with orchestras and in recital throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Israel, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Chile and Guatemala. He currently serves on the faculty at DePaul University. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, March 1, 2018 - 6:00 pm

UNI Opera will present a recital of arias performed by current School of Music students and faculty. This event is free and open to the public. 

Thursday, March 1, 2018 - 7:30 pm

Under the direction of School of Music professor and conductor Rebecca Burkhardt, the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra will offer a spring performance – their last in Cedar Falls before their tour to Brazil. This event is ticketed. For tickets, call (319) 273-4TIX or visit https://unitix.uni.edu/

Friday, March 2, 2018 - 12:15 pm

Members of the UNI Cantorei, Wind Symphony and Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra will collaborate under the direction of conductor John Len Wiles to present this performance as part of the Northern Iowa Bach Cantata Series. This event is free and open to the public.

Monday, March 5, 2018 - 8:00 pm

Visiting artist José Antonio Zayas Cabán will present a saxophone recital. As a concert saxophonist and pedagogue, José has presented performances and taught master classes throughout Europe, the Caribbean and North America. These appearances include, among others, Trinity College and the Guildhall School of Music (England), the Scottish Saxophone Academy (Scotland), and the Conservatorio Real de Música de Madrid (Spain). This event is free and open to the public.
