Beware of Shrinking Imagination: Publicly-Engaged Scholarship and the Educational Enterprise

Timothy K. Eatman of Imagining America will explore principles of engaged scholarship and implications for teacher education. This lecture and discussion will situate the American educational enterprise at the nexus of community engagement and the cultural disciplines (arts, humanities, and design). Community-university partnerships can enrich educational scholarship, research and the continuum of knowledge making.

Teaching about Privilege: A Faculty Panel

Panelists Kim Baker, Stephanie Logan, Shauib Meachum, Karen Mitchell and David Moore will host a conversation about privilege, power, oppression, race, class, sexual orientation and other topics that are crucial for making educational experiences about diversity and inclusion productive and beneficial. Panelists will share their classroom contexts, effective teaching strategies and how they deal with student resistance.

Let's talk attendance

Susan Hill will facilitate this discussion about class attendance. Participants should come prepared to share ideas about attendance. Other topics include a review of the research on class attendance and exploration of different strategies for handling attendance and talking with students about class engagement.
