Art Exhibit: "Nature's Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention"

This exhibition is a traveling contemporary art exhibition curated by Randy Jayne Rosenberg, Executive Director of Art Works For Change, Inc. with generous support from The Nathan Cummings Foundation; the National Endowment for the Arts; The Adobe Foundation; and the Sprint Foundation. At UNI, this presentation is made possible by the UNI College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. In addition, Ned Dodington, Founder and Director of AnimalArchitecture.org, will present a public lecture at 7 p.m. on Thursday., Sept. 4, in KAB room 111. An opening reception for the speaker and the exhibition will follow. Other lectures associated with this programming may be viewed on the Gallery website calendar. All events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mon. - Thurs.; noon to 5 p.m., Fri. and Sat.; and by appointment. The Gallery will be closed Sept. 1 for Labor Day.

Department of Art Purchases and Recent Acquisitions from the UNI Permanent Art Collection co-curated by Dr. Charles M. Adelman and Gallery Director Darrell Taylor. This exhibition features works by Byron Burford, Thaddeus Erdahl, George Longfish, Maggie Taylor, and Peter Voulkos. Students from Dr. Adelman’s “Research Methods and Writing in Art History” class will present didactic materials for each object.

Live Like a Student

Live Like a Student

Live Like a Student is a free three-week non-credit course that will allow students to explore the concepts of personal budgeting, credit and credit cards, student loans, financial aid and identity protection. Courses are offered at a variety of times, Sept.15-Oct. 2. Participants will receive a Live Like a Student t-shirt and have a chance to win a $500 scholarship. Healthy Communities Film: "9000 Needles" and "Community Acupuncture"

The films "9,000 Needles" and "Community Acupuncture" both explore the use of acupuncture as a healing method. "9,000 Needles" tells the story of Devin Dearth, a 40-year-old who suffered a stroke and turned to acupuncture therapy. "Community Acupuncture" is a documentary chronicling Working Class Acupuncture, a clinic that opened in Portland, Ore. in 2002. Tara Anderson, local acupuncturist, will speak following the showing of the films.
