"Department of Art Faculty Exhibition"

The exhibition is a formal presentation of recent accomplishments by the faculty in the UNI Department of Art. It is an opportunity for students and the public at large to experience current themes in contemporary art and also to meet artists who not only teach but also maintain vibrant professional careers in studio art, graphic design, art history, and art education. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m., Mon., Oct. 9, in the KAB South lobby.

The Clothesline Project 2017

Join the UNI Women's and Gender Studies Program in participating in the Clothesline Project. In recognition of Relationship Violence Awareness Month, WGS will host t-shirt decorations to raise awareness for violence against women. People who have been affected by violence, be it first-hand or otherwise, are invited to decorate a t-shirt with their thoughts, feelings and supportive messages surrounding the subject. These shirts will then be hung on a clothesline for all to see.

Walk the Labyrinth

The labyrinth is in the form of a circle with a meandering but purposeful path from the edge to the center. While walking the labyrinth, one may feel joy in slowing down the pace of life and find peace, insight, reflection, creativity, relaxation and wisdom. It can be made available for student organizations, events and meetings.

Diversity Colloquium: Strategies for Teaching Power and Privilege in the University Classroom

Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 2:00 pm

T. Elon Dancy II, University of Oklahoma, will offer frameworks for thinking about (and acting within) systems of power as they shape teaching and learning in college classrooms. Specifically, the presenter will define intersectionality theory and discuss how this framework offers insight into complex systems, institutions (i.e., universities) and individuals. Next, the presenter will discuss the practices, tools and strategies that emerge when filtering pedagogy through an intersectionality framework. The presentation will end with audience dialogue and engagement.

Seed Collecting Prairie Walk

Daryl Smith and Bruce Stiles will lead the prairie walk. Paper bags for seeds will be provided. Meet at the Thunder Ridge Mall parking lot in Cedar Falls before 4:30 p.m. to car pool/caravan to the prairie. For those who want to join the group at the site, the prairie is located at the intersection of Butler and Mark roads. Park on the east side of Butler road south of the intersection near the sign of the west entrance.
