This presentation seeks to make visible some of the objects in the UNI Permanent Art Collection made by women artists and elevate contributions of women as makers. Note, the Gallery will be closed Mon., Jan. 15 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Free and open to the public.

An exhibition by Mary Griep, retired Associate Dean of Fine Arts at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN representing nearly two decades of work inspired by 11th and 12th century sacred architecture from around the world. Among the large-scale artworks on display are Notre Dame Cathedral of Chartres (France), the Hindu temple of Angkor Wat (Cambodia), the Mayan temple El Castillo (Mexico), and the artist’s newest work, the Baptistery of Saint John, in Florence (Italy). On Wed., Jan. 17 at 6:00 p.m., Griep will present a lecture about her work in Kamerick Art Building, room 111. An opening reception will follow.

Northern Festival of Bands

Thursday, February 8, 2018 (All day) to Saturday, February 10, 2018 (All day)

The Northern Festival of Bands, an annual honor band festival for high school band students, which typically hosts over 40 schools and over 250 individual students, will be held February 8-10, 2018. The event will feature performances by the UNI Wind Ensemble and UNI Symphonic Band on Friday evening as well as Saturday afternoon’s performance featuring solo competition winners, the festival’s percussionist groups, Festival Concert Band and Festival Symphony Band. Friday’s concert is free and open to the public. The Saturday concert for this event is ticketed. For tickets, call 319-273-4TIX. For more information, call 319-273-2028.

Live Like a Student Financial Literacy Classes

Live Like a Student is a free, three-week financial literacy course (non-credit). Students learn the basics of budgeting, financial planning, financial aid, credit and identity protection during six 50-minute class sessions. Participants receive a free t-shirt and are entered into a $500 scholarship drawing. Registration is required.

Film Appreciation Club : "Moonlight"

See the Academy Award-winning film "Moonlight." The film, which takes a look at three defining chapters in the life of a young black man who learns to come to grips with his homosexuality, won for Best Picture of 2016. This special screening is being brought to UNI's campus as a co-promotion between Film Appreciation Club and the LGBT* Center. Admission is free and all are welcome.
