"2019 Department of Art Faculty Exhibition"

The "2019 Department of Art Faculty Exhibition" is a formal presentation of recent accomplishments by the faculty in the UNI Department of Art and includes painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media, performance and installation art as well as art history scholarship. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 in the Kamerick Art Building’s south lobby. All events are free and open to the public.

Ethical Issues in Qualitative Research

Susan Etscheidt, special education, will moderate a discussion on ethical principles for the framework, design and conduct of qualitative research, including how to conceptualize research questions, engage participants and their voices in the process, and avoid objectification and "othering", particularly in disability studies. Panelists include Kyle Rudick, communication studies, and David Hernandez-Saca, special education.  Registration requested.

Hearst Lecture Series: Sandra Cisneros Reading and Talk

Monday, October 28, 2019 - 7:00 pm

The Department of Languages and Literatures will host Sandra Cisneros, poet, short story writer, novelist, essayist, performer, community activist, and artist as part of the The Hearst Lecture Series. Her work explores the lives of the working-class. Cisneros is the author of The House of Mango StreetWoman Hollering Creek and Other Stories, and Caramelo, among others. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the National Medal of the Arts award presented to her by President Obama in 2016. Most recently, she received the Ford Foundation’s Art of Change Fellowship, was recognized among The Frederick Douglass 200, and won the PEN/Nabokov Award for international literature. The reading and talk is free and open to the public.

Two Films on the Climate Crisis: The 3rd Annual Dorothy Perlman Finkel Film Series

Screening of “Age of Consequences” which investigates the impact of climate change on resource scarcity, migration and conflict from the perspectives of U.S. national security and global stability. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion by UNI faculty and an undergraduate student who are working on different projects related to climate change. This event is free and open to the public.
