7:30 pm, Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center Much more than a concert, In the Mood presents a retro 1940's musical featuring singers, dancers and the sensational String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra. The music and the arrangements are as authentic as it gets. This was a time that all America was listening and dancing to the same kind of music. In the 1940's, the combination of up-tempo big band instrumentals and intimate, romantic ballads set the mood for a future filled with promise, hope and prosperity. This was the time when the music moved the nation's spirit! Sponsored by: Community National Band and Friends of the Gallagher-Bluedorn. 10 am - Noon, University Book & Supply Guests will enjoy four Woody Allen Masterpieces: Annie Hall, Hannah and Her Sisters, Bullets Over Broadway, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Sessions will involve watching each film (one per week) with selected scenes shown and discussed. Discussions will highlight Woody Allen's thematic and stylistic features and distinguish him as an "auteur" filmmaker. Allen deals with major issues of our time: life's meaning in a postmodern age, the role of art in culture, broken relationships, sex, love, infatuation, and whether God exists and makes a difference to individuals and history. Allen also manages to deal with these questions using one of the philosopher's most rare gifts: laughter. Contact: Stacey Christensen; email: stacey.christensen@uni.edu; phone: 319-273-6728. Tickets/Registration: $40
