The purpose of this event is to build connections with alumni and people within the black community, promote entrepreneurship, and showcase underrepresented black business owners. This event will be open to the public and very educational.

Join us for a soup lunch provided by a gourmet chef and conversation with Elizabeth Popplewell, rector at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Cedar Falls.

Wednesday, February 20, 2019 - 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

This event will aim to focus on the variety of oppressions of African Americans from slavery to discrimination.  Each classroom will display scenes of oppression of all sorts. Each classroom will have a real life reenactment putting the student in the scene to give them a true experience. The Tunnel of Oppression rooms will tentatively include Wall of Mirrors Room, To Those We’ve Lost Room, Slave Room, Hair Room, Check Your Privilege Room, Microaggressions Room, Intersectionality Room, and a counseling room for debrief sessions

Thursday, February 21, 2019 - 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm

Charity Chili Cook Off: Do you think you make the best chili in town? Prove it and win money to give to a great cause of your choice.

*50% of proceeds go to winners charity of choice
*Other 50% of proceeds go the charity with the highest attendance
*Contestants bring chili to College Hill Lutheran Church by 4:15pm

UNI BSU will attend a showing of the movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. We plan to show this movie because her story is not known and has contributed to science a lot. 

Friday, February 22, 2019 - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

A loose murderer, Cary Grant's charm and Rosalind Russell's wit make for a fantastic drama about the newspaper scene in the 1940s. From legendary director, Howard Hawks, "His Girl Friday" is a delightful screw-ball comedy that will have your eyes locked on the action the whole time! All are welcome; there will be a discussion to follow. 

Saturday, February 23, 2019 - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

King and Queen of BSU is a competition that promotes the excellence of the African American men and women on our campus. It strives to promote academic achievement, involvement, scholarship, and talent. The pageant includes a showcase of different attire for the contestants, a talent, and a interview question. Eight contestants will be competing in the pageant (this competition is open to all gender identities and expressions).

Sunday, February 24, 2019 - 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Soul Food is a specific type of food or cuisine traditionally prepared and eaten by African Americans of the Southern United States. Many of the various dishes and ingredients included in "soul food" are also regional meals.The style of cooking originated during American slavery years.Traditional black gospel is music that is written to express either personal or a communal belief regarding African American Christian life and can be dated back to american slavery years as a means to cope with harsh conditions. We will host a concert with local special guests, and afterwards host a soul food dinner.

Monday, February 25, 2019 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This event will also include interactive games such as timed word searches, as well as a kahoot trivia that will allow students to group with one another to compete for the correct answer. The purpose of this event is to enhance students knowledge about the history of the African American culture. There will be questions on the events and people who made a difference in our history as well as questions pertaining to black culture.

Come try out for the UNI Orchesis Dance Company! We recommend you come 30 minutes early to warm up and fill out forms. The audition will include jazz, ballet, modern, and tap! If you cannot make it to auditions, you are able to send in a video.
