Tuesday, April 9, 2024 - 12:00 am to 11:59 pm

The UNI Physics Department will host the State of Iowa Physics Competition on Tuesday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mcleod Center.  The competition includes a series of five physics events for high school (Grades 9-12) students including the catapult, mousetrap car, tooth pick bridge, optical slalom and measurement. The competition stresses creativity and ingenuity as well as an understanding of physics related principles and is intended to stimulate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The competition emphasizes the scientific and engineering practices found in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and participation in the competition integrated with appropriate instruction can address the NGSS which should be emphasized in all science classrooms.
